Luxury villas in the Algarve: the latest design from the Spanish Pritzker Prize winners

The Catalan studio RCR Arquitectes, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2017, has designed eight luxury villas at the Palmares Ocean Living & Golf resort, located in the Algarve of Portugal, which will open at the end of 2020. The complex will have a hotel and villas , a social club and spa, but only eight of them will be Signature Villas, among the most luxurious in the area.

The first of these eight luxury villas is already completed and has been presented as Villa 19. All of them will be characterized by their large size, with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, sea views, a large private pool and a large garden. Designed to fit into the landscape, they are made up of superimposed concrete planes with angular walls.

Villa 19 has two floors, and is organized around nine terraces so that indoor activities can spill out into the open air. On the ground floor, the kitchen, dining room and living room are located along the first three of these terraces. The pool creates a natural divide between these more social spaces and a downstairs bedroom, which opens up to a further three stepped terraces. Upstairs, the remaining three bedrooms each have their own terrace.

The Palmares Ocean Living & Golf complex will have 450 villas and a five-star hotel with 150 rooms, an ambitious project developed by the developer Kronos Homes. Kronos was acquired in 2017 with the land that includes a golf course designed by the architect Robert Trent Jones, with an initial investment of 250 million euros.
