Rihanna debuts as a jewelry designer

Rihanna not only succeeds, and much, as a singer, she also does as a businesswoman and designer. The Barbadian artist has just signed an important collaboration agreement with the prestigious jewelery firm Chopard to launch a collection, which she will present at the Cannes Film Festival in May. These are unique creations inspired by the roots of the singer's island and are made of 18-carat rose gold.

The nine pieces of jewelery have been limited to 2,000 editions per design and will be on sale in Chopard stores around the world in June, although reservations can already be made on the firm's website.

"Rihanna and I collaborate closely on the collections, so you can feel her unstoppable energy, her strong creativity and her inherent sense of design in each piece," said Caroline Scheufele, president of the firm, in a statement. . "With her unique style, the way people see and wear jewelry is redefined."

The singer has long been sporting Swiss jewelry creations for many of her red carpet events. At the last Grammy Awards, the artist wore a pair of multicolored floral-inspired chandelier earrings and a marquis-cut diamond solitaire ring, while on the March cover of Harper's Bazaar she donned diamond earrings.

Cannes will also mark the 20th anniversary of Chopard as an official partner of the festival. The Geneva-based jeweler and watchmaker has made celebrity collaborations an annual tradition. Julianne Moore last year wore the house's first pieces featuring responsibly sourced emeralds, designed with the help of the actress. In 2015, it was Marion Cotillard who worked with Chopard on jewelery design using ethically sourced gemstones.

Rihanna's work as a designer is abundant. In 2016 she created a range of futuristic sunglasses in collaboration with Dior as part of her work as a brand ambassador and was involved in two shoe collections for Manolo Blahnik. In 2015, she signed a three-year contract as creative director for Stance socks. In addition, the singer is the creative director of Puma and has her own makeup line.
