The looter of the Palau alleges that they stole luxury goods that he had seized

The judicial problems have not ended for the looters of the Palau de la Música, Fèlix Millet and Jordi Montull. The former president of the Palau has declared this Thursday as a defendant before a judge in Granollers (Barcelona) who is investigating him for the disappearance of several luxury objects that had been seized from him to be sold and thus return the looting to the auditorium.

Millet, 86, who has been serving a sentence of nine years and eight months in prison since 2020 for the looting he perpetrated at the Palau de la Música, has testified by videoconference from the Brians 2 prison. Despite the problems he has had hearing the questions of his lawyer –Millet is quite deaf and has only responded to his lawyer–, the former boss of the Palau has alleged that he did not know that seized assets were missing, and has pointed out that his disappearance may be due to a robbery that he suffered in his mansion of L'Ametlla del Vallès (Barcelona) in 2018.

Millet and Montull were sentenced in 2020 after a long judicial process for looting the Palau de la Música, one of the totems of the Catalan bourgeoisie. They dedicated 23 million euros that belonged to the Palau to luxury trips, works in their homes, private purchases of all kinds –such as tobacco– and Millet even paid for the entire wedding of one of his daughters with money from the auditorium, receiving half of the fees. blessings to his in-law. Of all the looting, 6.6 million were commissions to the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC) that Ferrovial channeled through the Palau in exchange for public works.

Despite the fact that since 2009, when the scandal broke out, the assets have been seized, the recovery of the looting is proving difficult. The negotiations between the condemned and the Palau for the return of the looting failed. In addition, the Barcelona Court, in charge of executing the sentence, discovered that part of the luxury goods seized from Millet had disappeared.

It happened when the judges authorized the entry of experts into the mansion in L'Ametlla del Vallès (Barcelona) where Millet lives to appraise the 44 works of art and objects seized since 2009. It was found that a grand piano, a bed head from the 18th century, a vase, two carved ivory tusks and a dozen animal figures also made of ivory.

Subsequently, Millet's defense informed the court that he had found the piano, the vase and the headboard in the house of the wife of the former president of the Palau, who died in 2018. The Palau de la Música, represented by the lawyers Marc Molins and Laura Parés, wants Millet and Montull to return every penny. The value of the missing objects is, depending on different appraisals, between 1,000 and 3,000 euros.

If Millet has appeared before the judge this Thursday, Montull did so last Friday, also for hiding his assets so as not to compensate for the looting. In his statement, legal sources have reported, Montull admitted that he did not inform the Barcelona Court that he obtained a rental of a property in El Masnou (Barcelona) of which he is the owner together with his wife, despite the fact that he had assured that his only sustenance was his retirement pension.

However, Montull and his wife, who also declared as investigated, refused before the judge that the will was to hide assets, since they alleged that the rent was communicated to the Palau de la Música in the framework of the failed negotiations to compensate for the looting. . They also argued that the income obtained was used to cover taxes and maintenance costs, so, according to their version, they did not obtain rental benefits.

Montull remains in semi-liberty, unlike his former boss, who has been in an ordinary prison regime since June 2020. Last December the Government denied pardon to the two ex-presidents of the Palau, in what was his last attempt to avoid the jail. In the trial, both betrayed Convergència, in an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office to reduce their sentences, and confessed that the construction company Ferrovial paid commissions of up to 4%: the party kept 2.5% and the rest was they distributed Millet at 1% and Montull at 0.5% as intermediaries.
