In the early years, curiosity and the desire to learn prompted her to venture into what would become her trade. Ana Luisa Navarro dedicated herself to learning about techniques and selection of materials but also to being attentive to fashion trends in terms of colors, her husband, Gonzalo Ruiz, being in charge of maneuvering the cutting tools, according to the characteristics of each piece of wood.

Ana Luisa lives a few blocks from downtown Laja. In his home he made some modifications to enable his work rooms. Between shelves and counters, she keeps ordered pieces of wood, acrylics, brushes, cutting tools and countless other items, with which she gives life to the creation of unique pieces. Thus, he reuses pieces of peumo, quillay, boldo and myrtle, as well as the centenary picoyo, which is a resin from the araucarias. This material – unique in the world – comes from dead trees, which can live for between 1,000 and 2,500 years.

IN TUNE WITH THE ENVIRONMENT

“Our idea is always to preserve the environment (…) We rescue wood from the Biobío forests to transform it into beautiful and unique jewels” explains Ana Luisa regarding her venture that has taken her to visit different cities, standing out in this instance , the interest shown not only by the local community but also by foreigners when it comes to -for example- the picoyo. “It is Chilean amber. That's how he leaves our country. Chilean wood is highly prized abroad because it is very beautiful, elegant. The color is neutral and goes well with silver, nickel silver and other metals, with the resin it is beautiful" he stated, referring to one of the materials with which he works in his workshop.

Thus, along with the jewels in picoyo, cut into thin sheets, sets of earrings and necklaces painted in the most diverse shapes and colors appear on her display.

“They gave us some pieces of picoyo, which is the fossilized resin of the araucaria, around 3,000 years old,” recalls the entrepreneur, who keeps as a great treasure the first ring she designed with her husband: “This it is the ring that tells us if we have progressed or not. A few years ago we believed that this ring was perfect but now we look at it and the truth is that it is not so perfect, ”she says excitedly, projecting herself more than 7 years after starting the project.

He adds: “When we made the first piece of jewelery we discovered that the resin with the wood was precious, and it was at that moment that we made an oval piece. When we saw it, my husband tells me this is a gem! and there we project ourselves. Many things can be done with resin, but we decided at that moment that we wanted to make jewelry”.

In each product is the seal of the Lajino couple, “discovering our abilities was a slow and gradual process. Especially for my husband. I think he is surprised by how talented he is. The jewels are created by him. I intervene in the mixture of colors, shapes, assemblies and covers to achieve the shine”.

    THE PROJECTIONS

Between jigsaws, sanders and pedestal drills is Ana Luisa, who gives each of her jewels a name, just as she started with the Ramona earrings, in memory of her first pet, “All creations have a woman's name . Ramona, for example, was a kitten, who arrived at a very significant moment in my life (...) The model was created by my husband and in all colors it has been a success in sales at each of the fairs and shows. It is one of the most requested, as is the round ring, which is a classic”.

Given the health contingency, Beta Nativa maintains online sales and, to the extent that the health contingency allows, in person. “We are Falabella sellers, so you can also find us at Falabella.cl and we are also very happy because we are part of Fibra Local, which is a physical store that CMPC owns. We are very happy for this news that we have and that we are working for them as suppliers. We are also suppliers of the Britt Chile store that is in the Santiago Airport”.
