Mercedes EQS, the luxury of electric vehicles | Trade

Mercedes Benz had to do something different in the growing segment of electric vehicles, especially in the luxury saloon section where the new EQS plays, and they have certainly succeeded. The first thing that impresses is its size. With its 5.21 meters long and 1.90 meters wide, it is a sedan that turns heads. The wind slides over its bodywork that has the best aerodynamic coefficient in the world with a CX of 0.2, but what is truly dazzling is its interior. The entire dashboard is occupied by what they call "Hyperscreen", a 56-inch curved screen divided into three sections: one for the dashboard, another for the infotainment that occupies the central part and the co-pilot screen. The interior is truly luxurious in every detail, very comfortable and spacious, and has a boot with a capacity of 610 litres.

In the mechanical section, it is available with two engines: the 450+ and the 580 4MATIC, in addition to the announced AMG version. The first engine develops 333 hp. of power and 568 Nm of maximum torque. Its maximum speed has been self-limited to 210 km/h, and it manages to do 0-100 in 6.2 seconds. The declared autonomy according to the WLTP cycle reaches 770 kilometers thanks to a 107.8 kW battery. The top model of the range delivers 523 hp. Its maximum torque reaches an impressive 855 Nm, the maximum speed is self-limited in the same figure as the previous one, but in acceleration for the clock from 0 to 100 km/h. in 4.3 seconds. Autonomy is 700 km.

The Mercedes EQS supports a maximum charging power of 200 kW, although few chargers are available with this level of charging power. If we find one, the EQS can achieve range for 300 kilometers in just 15 minutes. The combined cycle consumption is between 17 and 20 kW to travel 100 kilometers. This translated into euros is between one euro and one and a half euros, depending on the rate we have contracted, if the recharge is made at home. In the case of using an external charging point, this cost would have to be multiplied approximately by three.

A piece of equipment that makes a decisive contribution to the dynamic and manoeuvrable impression of the EQS is the rear-axle steering fitted as standard, with a steering angle of up to 4.5°. As an option it can be replaced by rear axle steering with a wheel steering angle of up to 10°. The customer can opt-in for this equipment at the time of purchase, or enable it later via an "Over-the-Air" (OTA) wireless upgrade. The increase in the angle of orientation of the wheels is linked to a decrease in the turning diameter of the EQS to 10.9 meters, despite its length of more than five meters. Its price: 117,125 euros.
