TOP 10 POPULAR RECOMMENDED RACES
After two very unstable years, we finally have a large number of races confirmed for 2022. Great news seeing from where we have come from in the last two years because of the pandemic and we hope that they can all be celebrated. A few days ago we already published here the FEEC 2022 CALENDAR where the elite will play for the places for the Catalan team and the championships
Today we go with my top 10 mountain races for the popular: Of course, this list is a simple recommendation of races, just as I would propose them to a friend.
As you will see, we have included well-known and prestigious races, but also others that we find very interesting for the most popular runners. We have ordered them in order of celebration in the calendar.
Obviously, many great races are missing, in fact, we could make a list with another 10 races that would also be highly recommended (Els Bastions, Cursa de l'Alba, Neorural, Camí dels Íbers, BCN Trail Races, …) This is How lucky we are to live surrounded by great mountains and landscapes, in a country where we can count on almost a thousand mountain races a year.
For my part, all that remains is to wish you that we'll see each other at some of these races in 2022 Oh, and of course… What races would you add to my personal Top10?
MONTNEGRE CORREDOR TRAIL
We begin with one of the tests that is part of the Tuga Run Series Circuit and that runs through one of the most visited Parks in Catalonia, the Montnegre – Corredor, very close to Barcelona.
We will go through beautiful paths in the park, farmhouses, medieval churches and Neolithic dolmens among other hidden treasures along the different routes of this test, which is one of the most outstanding in the first quarter of 2022.
ULTRA TRAIL TARRAGONA SPORTHG
In 2019 we were lucky enough to run the marathon distance of this race when the route began in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Tarragona. Since the 2021 edition, all the races have been moved to the outskirts of Tarragona, to the Tarragona Tennis Club, location of the start and finish of all the UTTGN races.
This edition includes a distance of 334 kilometers (although with restricted entries), one of the few races in Spain that includes this distance, as well as the ultra-distance modality of 112 kilometers through Tarragona. An ideal race to start in similar distances or even a little greater than a mountain marathon.
CREUS CAP TRAIL
Signing up for one of the races organized by Klassmark is a "must" for all of us who like to run in the mountains in Catalonia. You ensure a perfect organization and races with routes through incredible landscapes, for this reason we highlight the Trail Cap de Creus that runs through beautiful trails and coves of the Costa Brava, in a full-fledged "leg-breaking" route.
Registrations sell out quickly and it is not surprising. Any of the other mountain races organized by Klassmark (SkyRace Montserrat, Trail Ulldeter, Rocacorba,...) are also essential in our race calendar.

OLLA DE NÚRIA
by mountain, organized by the Unió Excursionista de Vic.Last year's edition was part of the international Golden Trail World Series circuit as the inaugural test of the circuit, replacing the mythical Zegama, with which it had a luxury participation. In any case, the charm and tradition of this race is the same, whether or not it is included in international circuits.

BERGA TRAIL
We participated in this race in the 2019 edition and I can attest to the hardness, but at the same time, great beauty of the entire route that runs through the areas of Rasos de Peguera, the Serra d'Ensija and the sanctuary of Queralt before beginning the final descent to Berga.
This is one of the popular tests that we wanted to highlight due to the great dedication, affection and organization of the Berguedà Mountain Runners Sports Association that make Berga the capital of Trail running in Catalonia for a weekend.
VALLD'ARAN by UTMB
One day running the Ultra Trail MontBlanc is one of the dreams that trailrunners have -by the way, increasingly difficult and inaccessible-, in any case, since the year In the past we are lucky to have in Catalonia (at the moment the only one in Spain) a race with the spirit of the mythical UTMB and, for a few days, one of the three Majors on the UTMB circuit.
The routes that take place through the Vall d'Aran are very tough and more technical than many fans believe and you must be in good physical shape to face some of the four tests scheduled for 2022 with guarantees. Without a doubt It is one of the "must" races for this 2022.

SALOMON ULTRA PIRINEU
Pirineu.Last year's edition included some changes compared to previous editions, but with equally beautiful routes through the Cadí Moixeró Natural Park, highlighting the iconic steps through the “Niu de Àliga” Refuge, “Penyes Altes” or "Empedrats" among others. More than 1,000 runners come together in this great event that you have to run at least once in your life.
MITJA DEL CASTELL
One of the popular races with the most followers, as well as having a great organization is. without a doubt, the Mitja del Castell. Another of its attractions is that it takes place very close to Barcelona, in El Papiol (Baix Llobregat).
The two tests of the race take place in the Collserola park, one of the most popular parks for runners every weekend. Incredible trails through the park, more or less technical and, starting and finishing at El Papiol Castle, await the participants who sell out their numbers every year.
TRAIL BISAURA
If there is a popular race that everyone knows and wants to run, that is the Trail Bisaura, where the involvement of the organization and an entire town is noticeable in all aspects dedicated to one of the most popular and most atmospheric mountain races in Catalonia.
You will have a great time with the atmosphere of the race, yes, you have to be in very good physical shape because the different routes are really hard and demanding. The Bisaura Trail is part of the Catalan Mountain Racing Cup.
ULTRA TRAIL SERRA MONTSANT
One of the most consolidated tests on the mountain race calendar in Catalonia is the Ultra Trail Serra Montsant, organized by Naturtime, with more than 12 editions behind it and with a great growth of participants during the last editions (not counting the year of COVID of course).
The five tests of the weekend take place through impressive landscapes of the Serra del Montsant Natural Park with gorges and ravines that delight the runners of all the tests that take place.
Before concluding, we want to make a small tribute and recognition to all those groups of friends, specialized companies, sports clubs,... who, in many cases selflessly and for the love of the sport, organize mountain races so that we can enjoy our favorite sport, to all of them, thank you very much!!

As we pointed out above, we are very lucky to have almost a thousand mountain races throughout Spain. of the highest quality in the world. And also with the lowest cost in the world per kilometer. That €1/km so common here that as soon as we cross the Pyrenees becomes €2-3/km and even €4-5/km if we travel to America or Asia.
Today we review with Mayayo the special prepared for a spectacular weekend, where the Ultra Pirineu with Kilian, the Zumaia Flysch Trail WMRA World Cup with a Kenyan double, Ultra La Covatilla with Miguel Heras and Desafio El Cainejo with Manuel Merillas came together.
Four events of interest for elites and popular. Four different regions. As a mountain runner we have had Mayayo cross the finish line in three of them, from Cadí to Zumaia, passing through Picos.
