The Alberto Moreno Magazine, director of Vanity Fair, reflects on the return of glamor with Naty Abascal, cover star, and the recent Mostra as references.

By Alberto Moreno

The first lines of this letter I write in my head. I've put setting wax on my hair and that's why the wind that hits it doesn't make it flutter like a kite. If anything, it sets it tighter until my bangs slide like a slide, skyward. When I get to land I'll try to fix the mess. I turn over several more sophisticated thoughts than my look while a taxi-boat is about to drop me back at the Venice airport after 24 hours of stendhalazo.Yesterday I visited the Lido with an expedition of Spanish journalists and we saw a forgettable movie within an unforgettable setting. Its title is difficult for me to remember, but not the feeling of power of the Mostra; dignified, regal, pompous, chic. We were offered the opportunity to walk the red carpet towards the gala pass and we agreed. Above all, we were preceded and succeeded by local stars, since the film was Italian. They were well dressed and well groomed, their tuxedos impeccable. They, tall and bright, generous in transparencies or with long trains, sometimes both simultaneously. It is strange or foolish who does not dare to photograph that liturgy: oneself on the red carpet. As if that walk full of dignity legitimized the artistic proposal. Each one has her troupe and sometimes they talk more about before than during.

Last year the festival was held in much more timid conditions, with close to 70% of the population vaccinated, in fact, with no one yet vaccinated. Now the extreme control of certificates and complementary tests to them mean that we are not completely sure, but we do glimpse a goal in which to celebrate a festival like those of the old days, full of kisses and hugs, long in selfies .

· Carta del director · Un nuevo chic

Half an hour before our grand entrance, we've had a prosecco-based cocktail on the terrace of the Excelsior and they've tipped us off that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are already in town to promote his latest movie, which opens the next day. The curious become excited, and also some of the journalists in my entourage, who wonder if we will meet them to ask them some questions on the mobile. If Bennifer does not come out of his chrysalis, several have launched a plan to haunt them at the door of the hotel where they are staying. They need to check if their love is as exuberant as it was two weeks ago, but especially as it was 18 years ago, when the first part of their particular non-fiction film was developed. The word “paparazzi” comes from the last name of one of the photographers who appeared in La Dolce Vita.

Before us and the fashionable couple, the corridors of the Excelsior housed artists of the stature of Pedro Almodóvar (whom we interviewed in this issue), Penélope Cruz (awarded by Parallel Mothers), Milena Smit, Jane Campion, Benedict Cumberbatch , Kristen Stewart, Jessica Chastain or Paolo Sorrentino. They say that it has been the Mostra with the highest artistic level and of artists in recent years, since the situation has made Cannes let go of pieces that it would naturally have monopolized. All of them got off the boat and got on the next one with the same little or much grace that I showed. The trick so that your hair doesn't go down like a slide when you apply wax and the wind is so intense that the seagulls have a hard time moving forward is to get inside the cabin, but then the photographers and the curious would not see their idols, and we are facing the rebirth of glamor after a year and a half practically locked up. Please make an effort.

To symbolize this new start-up, this celebration of the openings and the return to life similar to how we once knew it, we entrust our cover to the universal Naty Abascal, eternal bull skin mannequin and ambassador of our fashion for the front rows across Europe. Her vitality today fascinates the most dedicated runner and her agenda competes with that of the most aggressive executive. We celebrate with her, divine in haute couture, that masks may soon become archaeological remains. Hopefully.
